Background: Thornbury Cider is the flagship product of Thornbury Village Cidery. We proudly craft our cider in the midst of 7,500 acres of apple orchards, in the heart of apple country. Thornbury Village Cidery was established with the aim to produce premium quality ciders that would tantalize the palette. Using the finest apples that these orchards have to offer, we have created an easy drinking, light, crisp and refreshing cider. I stole that from their site as I couldn’t find much out there on Thornbury.
First Taste is: Tasty! This carbonated cider pours a small white mousse that quickly diminishes. I found that after poured it in to a glass the effervescence subsided to just the right amount for me to fully take in the flavours. This crisp off-dry cider starts slightly winey and continues with muted apple flavour throughout and finishes with a playful acidic bite. I did get a slight spicy (cinnamon) aftertaste that was a nice unexpected surprise. It was light and tasty. I drank it slightly chilled and NOT on ice.
What’s in it? Sulphites and Apples – no other ingredients listed.
Overall: I was pleasantly surprised by this cider from Ontario. It has a crisp distinct taste which was awesome! Thornbury had the option to go somewhere safe and instead they made something tasty and unique. Not overly sweet OR dry, not super carbonated and with natural cidery flavours, this cider was good. If you are lucky enough to live in Ontario you should seek this one out and when you do, please don’t put it on ice. This one should be enjoyed with all of it’s natural flavour intact.
Would I buy it again? Yes
Where to get it? In Ontario at the LCBO and on Tap at various locations.
